Obstetrics & Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University (Red House Hospital): Campus Guide & How to Book an Appointment

Overview

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University (复旦大学附属妇产科医院), widely known as the Red House Hospital (红房子) due to its distinctive red-brick building, is one of China's most prestigious specialized hospitals for women's health. Founded in 1884, it is a Grade 3A specialized hospital exclusively dedicated to obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive medicine. The hospital is nationally recognized for its excellence in gynecologic oncology, IVF and assisted reproductive technology, obstetrics and high-risk pregnancy, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, and endometriosis treatment. Its gynecologic oncology program — covering cervical, ovarian, and uterine cancers — is among the most experienced and respected in China.

Campus Location

The hospital operates from its historic main campus:

  • Main Campus — 419 Fangxie Road, Huangpu District. All specialist departments are concentrated here, including gynecologic oncology, IVF and reproductive medicine, obstetrics, minimally invasive surgery, and the endometriosis center.

All services are at the single main campus in Huangpu District. Plan travel and accommodation accordingly.

  • Real-name registration is mandatory. Bring the patient's original valid ID (national ID card or passport for foreign nationals). Without it, registration and self-service machines cannot be used.
  • Outpatient hours: Morning 08:00–11:30 | Afternoon 13:00–17:00. Select departments operate on weekends.
  • Emergency department: Open 24 hours for obstetric and gynecologic emergencies.

  • Gynecologic oncology patients: Bring all prior pathology reports, imaging (CT, MRI, PET-CT), tumor marker results (CA-125, HE4, CEA), and prior treatment records.

Key Rules and Tips

Slot Release Schedule

  • General outpatient slots open at 08:00 daily for the next 7 days.

Tips for High-Demand Specialists

  • Complete patient registration setup before the slot release time and log in at exactly 08:00.
  • Check for cancellations during 15:00–17:00 daily — re-released slots can be claimed.
  • For gynecologic oncology, prepare a complete dossier: pathology reports, molecular profiling (HPV status, BRCA, MSI), imaging, tumor markers, and prior treatment records.

Booking Limits and No-Show Policy

  • One appointment per patient, per department, per day.
  • Cancellations must be made before 17:00 the day prior to the appointment.
