Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center: Campus Guide & How to Book an Appointment

Overview

Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center (复旦大学附属公共卫生临床中心), affiliated with Fudan University, is China's foremost specialized hospital for infectious diseases and public health emergencies. Founded in 1914, it is a Grade 3A specialized hospital exclusively dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of infectious and communicable diseases. The hospital is nationally and internationally recognized for its excellence in hepatology and liver disease, HIV/AIDS treatment, tuberculosis, emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, and COVID-19 and pandemic response. It served as Shanghai's primary treatment center during the COVID-19 pandemic and remains China's benchmark institution for infectious disease management.

Campus Location

Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center operates from its main campus:

  • Main Campus — 2901 Caolang Road, Jinshan District. All specialist departments are concentrated here, including hepatology, HIV/AIDS clinic, tuberculosis center, and the emerging infectious disease unit.

Note: The campus is located in Jinshan District, approximately 50 km from central Shanghai. Plan travel time accordingly — allow at least 60–90 minutes from the city center by car or public transport.

Essential Patient Information

  • Real-name registration is mandatory. Bring the patient's original valid ID (national ID card or passport for foreign nationals). Without it, registration and self-service machines cannot be used.
  • Outpatient hours: Morning 08:00–11:30 | Afternoon 13:00–17:00. Select departments operate on weekends.
  • Emergency department: Open 24 hours.
  • HIV/AIDS patients: The HIV clinic follows a dedicated intake process with strict confidentiality protections. Contact the clinic directly before booking for guidance on the appropriate pathway.
  • Hepatology patients: Bring all prior liver function tests, viral load results (HBV DNA, HCV RNA), fibroscan or liver biopsy reports, and imaging (ultrasound, CT, MRI).
  • Distance planning: Given the Jinshan location, plan your visit carefully — combine multiple consultations or tests in a single trip where possible.
