Shanghai General Hospital (First People's Hospital): Campus Guide & How to Book an Appointment

Overview

Shanghai General Hospital (上海市第一人民医院), also known as Shanghai First People's Hospital, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, is one of Shanghai's largest and most comprehensive Grade 3A hospitals. Founded in 1864, it has over 160 years of medical history. The hospital is nationally recognized for its excellence in cardiology, ophthalmology, hematology, urology, and emergency medicine. Its ophthalmology department is a national leader in cataract surgery, retinal disease, and glaucoma treatment, while its cardiology and hematology programs attract patients from across China.

Campus Locations

Shanghai General Hospital operates across two main campuses:

  • North Campus — 585 Jiulong Road, Hongkou District. Houses general medicine, emergency services, and select specialist departments.
  • South Campus — 650 Xinsongjiang Road, Songjiang District. A modern campus providing comprehensive services including cardiology, ophthalmology, hematology, and urology.

Key specialist departments are distributed across both campuses. Confirm which campus hosts your required department before booking.
