Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital: Campus Guide & How to Book an Appointment

Overview

Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital (同济大学附属第一妇幼保健院), affiliated with Tongji University, is one of China's premier specialized hospitals for women's and infant health. Founded in 1947, it is a Grade 3A specialized hospital exclusively dedicated to obstetrics, gynecology, neonatology, and reproductive medicine. The hospital is nationally recognized for its excellence in obstetrics and high-risk pregnancy management, IVF and assisted reproductive technology, gynecologic surgery, neonatology and NICU care, and breast surgery. Its IVF success rates and high-risk obstetrics program attract patients from across China and internationally.

Campus Locations

Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital operates across two campuses:

  • Main Campus — 536 Changle Road, Jing'an District. The flagship campus housing obstetrics, gynecology, IVF, neonatology, and breast surgery departments.
  • Yangpu Campus — Yangpu District. Provides maternity and gynecology services for patients in northeastern Shanghai.

The IVF and reproductive medicine center and high-risk obstetrics unit are primarily at the Main Campus. Confirm department location before booking.

Essential Patient Information

  • Real-name registration is mandatory. Bring the patient's original valid ID (national ID card or passport for foreign nationals). Without it, registration and self-service machines cannot be used.
  • Outpatient hours: Morning 08:00–11:30 | Afternoon 13:00–17:00. Select departments operate on weekends.
  • Emergency department: Open 24 hours for obstetric and gynecologic emergencies.
  • IVF patients: The assisted reproductive technology (ART) program follows a dedicated intake and assessment process. Contact the reproductive medicine center directly before attempting standard online booking.
  • Prenatal care patients: Establish care early — first prenatal visit slots are in high demand and should be booked as soon as pregnancy is confirmed.

Key Rules and Tips

Slot Release Schedule

  • General outpatient slots open at 08:00 daily for the next 7 days.
  • Specialist slots (e.g., high-risk obstetrics, gynecologic oncology) open 7–14 days in advance and are highly competitive.
  • IVF and ART consultations follow a separate scheduling pathway — contact the reproductive medicine center directly.

Tips for High-Demand Specialists

  • Complete patient registration setup before the slot release time and log in at exactly 08:00.
  • Check for cancellations during 15:00–17:00 daily — re-released slots can be claimed.
  • For IVF consultations, prepare a complete fertility workup: hormone panels (AMH, FSH, LH, E2), semen analysis, uterine ultrasound, and prior treatment records.
  • For high-risk obstetrics, bring all prior prenatal records, ultrasound reports, and relevant lab results.

Booking Limits and No-Show Policy

  • One appointment per patient, per department, per day.
  • Cancellations must be made before 17:00 the day prior to the appointment.
  • Repeated no-shows may result in temporary booking restrictions across platforms.

Check-In on the Day
